Phnom Penh, June 11, 2024: Phnom Penh, June 11, 2024: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Dr. Sar Sokha, accompanied by Ke Suon Sophis Sokha, has embarked on a significant working visit to Australia from Phnom Penh International Airport, scheduled to last until June 16, 2024.

Authorized by Prime Minister Hun Manet, this visit aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in interior matters, particularly immigration between Cambodia and Australia.

During his stay, the Deputy Prime Minister is slated to engage with the Australian Minister for Immigration, Nationality and Multicultural Affairs, along with key officials from the Australian Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and senior members of the Australian Federal Police. These meetings are set to focus on discussions about bolstering ties and sharing expertise in areas such as immigration, cyber security, and combating human trafficking.

As part of ongoing cooperation in immigration, Australia has extended substantial assistance to Cambodia, including technical support through initiatives like the EMM1 and EMM2 projects, Alertlist and iMAS systems, document forensics with VSC 80, face comparison techniques, and training in investigative and interrogation skills, passenger assessment, and English language proficiency.

This trip marks Dr. Sar Sokha's third international working visit since assuming the role of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, following visits to Vietnam, Switzerland, and Germany. Coordinated by the Australian authorities, the Cambodian delegation is set to spend the week gaining firsthand experience of the professional practices of relevant Australian agencies.
